News briefs: Chamber holding business seminar, tops nation's Chambers list

Chamber holds free seminar for how to start a business on Sept. 17

The McKinney Chamber of Commerce will hold a free seminar on how to successfully start a business during its Brown Bag Lunch series from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sept. 17 at the chamber office, 1650 Virginia St., Ste. 110 .

Guests will learn how to analyze the feasibility of their business ideas, prepare a business plan, select a legal form, find sources of capital, and more. The seminar is sponsored by the McKinney Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business

Development Center of Collin County and it is open to chamber members and to the public.

McKinney Chamber in top 10 chambers in the nation

The McKinney Chamber of Commerce was recently recognized by the American Chamber of Commerce Executives among other chambers in the nation for the chamber's outstanding membership performance in 2007.

The chamber received an award for being in the top 10 chambers in the nation in both number of new members and new member dollars.

"It is always a tribute and strong affirmation to be recognized for attracting new members to the chamber," said executive vice president Terrie Keith . "The chamber works hard to provide services and products that will support our members. To see we are among the top in the nation in securing new members reinforces and confirms our mission - empowering our members to achieve economic success."


Continuing Education offers basic life support classes

Healthcare professionals can now take Basic Life Support and BLS renewal classes at Collin College's Courtyard Center for Professional and Economic Development, 4800 Preston Park Boulevard in Plano.

All classes are taught by a certified trainer and are approved by the American Heart Association.

The American Heart Association certification courses teaches you to recognize life-threatening emergencies, perform CPR and use AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.

Basic Life Support classes are available one Saturday a month from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. and renewal courses are available Fridays once a month from 1-4 p.m.

Arrangements can be made to provide classes for special groups as needed by calling (972) 599-3117.
