Independence Day celebrations are scheduled at Vista Ridge Mall and Lake Dallas Friday, with activities of the day beginning with parades and ending with fireworks at both locations.
A spokesperson at Vista Ridge Mall said a Stars and Stripes Parade for children will begin at 10 a.m. in the center court of the mall. Other activities, including face painting, crafts, etc., will be offered for children until noon.
Vista Ridge Mall personnel are inviting people to park on the south parking lot of the mall for the Red, White & Lewisville fireworks, which will begin at about 9:30 p.m.
Also, people are being invited to park on the Hilton Garden Inn parking lot to watch the fireworks. A $5 donation to the Children’s Advocacy Center of Denton County is being requested.
The July Fourth fireworks is an annual event, sponsored by the city of Lewisville.
“This will be a wonderful show,” said Jennifer Galante, Lewisville marketing and tourism manager. The fireworks will be presented by Zambelli Fireworks, a Pennsylvania-based firm that has provided fireworks for major events across the nation, including at New York’s annual New Year’s celebration.
The city of Lake Dallas has scheduled one of the largest July Fourth celebrations in the area for Friday, with activities scheduled from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
The event will kick off with the Bill Utter Ford Parade at 9 a.m. The parade, featuring vehicles, horses and floats, will travel through downtown Lake Dallas.
Trophies will be given to winners in each division and overall winners will receive cash prizes of $500 for first place, $300 for second place and $200 for third place. Immediately following the parade will be a patriotic presentation led by Cub Scout Pack 424 at the Veteran’s Memorial at the Lake Dallas City Park.
“This event keeps growing and this year is looking like it will be the best year by far,” said Shannon Fields of the Lake Dallas Special Events Department. “We have an exciting grand prize giveaway, free activities, entertainment and contests for the community to get involved in throughout the day.”
Event festivities at Lake Dallas City Park will include kid’s activities, contests, food, art, and craft booths and live entertainment. Vendors will offer face painting, chair massage, art pieces, clothing, jewelry and more.
The second annual Lake Cities Idol Competition will take place from 3-5 p.m. Eleven Hundred Springs will perform in the evening.
The Crosspointe Kidzone, sponsored by Crosspointe Community Church, will offer inflatables, games, food and drinks.
An apple pie bake-off, a watermelon eating contest and putting contest will take place for adults. Game Central of Corinth is sponsoring a Nintendo Wii Deluxe Package give-away. Entries can be obtained from the Fourth of July door hangers distributed to homes in the Lake Cities area or can be purchased at the event for just $2.
